This baby was born with a condition known as Chylous ascites which made his stomach the Size of a football. At 28 weeks, doctors told his mother that he had a swollen stomach and might not make it alive to the world, according to her she was already planning the funeral of her unborn child.
At birth 400mL of fluid was removed from his stomach and after birth through C-section. he spent three months in the hospital.
Chylous ascites is a rare condition in which a substance called chyle is found in the stomach, leaked from a duct in the lymphatic system Chyle is
a thick, white substance comprised mainly of fats absorbed by the small intestine. The body starts storing the fat as. liquid - causing the belly to bulge. The condition can be responsible for serious malnutrition and deficiencies of the immune systems because of the loss of proteins and white blood cells.
After birth, During the first few weeks of his life
he was fed with two 25ml doses of medicine a day to try and reduce the excess swelling.
His mother said; 'He can't drink milk or have anything foods you'd normally give to a baby. Miles has a limited diet of chicken,fish, egg whites, plain pasta and vegetables. We are hoping he outgrows his cow protein allergy and that he'll someday be able to eat a normal diet.
